Brixton Academy Reopens with Heightened Security After Tragic Crowd Surge
Brixton Academy has reopened today, Friday, 11th October, following a closure due to the tragic incident that took place on 15th December 2022, during Nigerian Afrobeats artist Asake's concert. A large crowd had gathered outside, and when the doors opened, a surge of people pushed forward, causing a fatal crush. Sadly, two lives were lost, and several others were injured.
After a period of investigation and the introduction of enhanced safety protocols, the venue is now open again, with stricter security measures in place for tonight’s performance by Overmono, the Welsh electronic music duo of brothers Tom and Ed Russell.
