Watch the moment festival-goers were injured in a 'crowd surge' at Boardmasters festival.

The surge happened at 8.24pm on August 9, 2024, when people were heading to watch DJ Sammy Virji - whose set was cancelled as a result.

One festival-goer claimed the event staff "underestimated" how many people would want to see Sammy Virji - so put him on a smaller stage."

The were two crowd surges that happened moments after each other - resulting in seven people being taken to hospital.

An onlooker - who witnessed both surges - said: "Everyone wanted to go see Sammy but the festival underestimated how big he would be."

"They put him on a smaller stage and people couldn't see."

"There were two big waves close together."

"I lifted my phone in the air to film how many people were there and that is when the first wave hit."

"Straight after that another wave hit so my mates and I bailed and left."

On Sunday, festival bosses said that "experienced pit management and security teams" had been "in place across the festival with robust medical and welfare provision including highly experienced and trained medical, welfare and safeguarding staff"."

They added: "These teams are available in the main arena and campsites 24 hours a day, for anything our audience might need."
