Durango, United States - September 18, 2024

In a bizarre late-night escapade, Colorado police found themselves in a “hopping speed” chase with a runaway red kangaroo that decided to take a stroll down the road. Body camera footage released by the Durango Police Department captures the unusual pursuit, igniting laughter and astonishment among viewers.

The police department's playful Facebook post recounted the incident, quipping about the unexpected chase with their "rogue red kangaroo" and speculating about the kangaroo’s motivation for leaving home—perhaps for a late-night trip to Cold Stone Creamery.

While kangaroos are legal pets in Durango, the police assured the public that the long-legged animal was safely returned to its owner. The department humorously noted, “We’re seriously reconsidering cardio” after the chase.

In a lighthearted comment, the police reminded the kangaroo of the dangers of exceeding curfew and speeding in residential areas. Further banter among officers suggested the possibility of adding a kangaroo to the force for various roles, from emotional support to search and rescue, sparking endless imaginative possibilities.
