Tehran, Iran - October 29, 2024 Iranian lawmakers on Tuesday warned that Israel's recent attack on the Islamic Republic merits a substantial response. Israel carried out airstrikes on military bases in western and southwestern Tehran early Saturday, killing at least four soldiers, according to Iran's Fars News Agency. The Israeli attack came in response to Iran's missile barrage against Israel on Oct 1, itself a retaliation for the killing of Iran-backed militant leaders and a Revolutionary Guards commander. Also on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said that Iran reserves the right to respond to the Israeli attacks last weekend but will not act hastily. At a meeting in the Iranian capital with foreign ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, the United Nations offices and international organizations in Iran, Araghchi said Iran had successfully curbed Israeli aggression and proved its ability to safeguard national security, but Israel must be held accountable for what it had done. The Israel Defense Forces announced early Saturday that it conducted "precise and targeted" airstrikes on targets in Iran in response to recent attacks from the country.
