STORYLINE:
Chinese pianist Lang Lang performed on Monday evening at Geneva's Victoria Hall, captivating a full house with his renditions of Schumann and Chopin's masterpieces.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LANG LANG, Chinese pianist
"This set of music is a solo concert that I have been frequently touring with this year. It falls under the category of Romanticism, featuring highly representative works by Schumann and Chopin. Pieces like Polonaise and Mazurka are particularly emblematic of Chopin's style. In addition, there is a visually evocative piece by Schumann called Kreisleriana, Op. 16. It is a fantasy depicting a dialogue between two contrasting personalities within one person. It suits me somehow as I am a Gemini, and I feel quite at ease whenever I play it."
Lang also revealed plans to perform two concerts with his mentor, Daniel Barenboim, at the Lucerne Festival next summer to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LANG LANG, Chinese pianist
"I came to perform in Switzerland as early as 2001. I like this place every time I visit. During the summer next year, I have two important concerts at the Lucerne Festival. It would be wonderful if we could use this opportunity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland. This tour holds great significance, as it involves me and my mentor, Daniel Barenboim. We will perform together during the Lucerne Festival. I aspire to cement the bridge of friendship between China and Switzerland through music, not only in the upcoming 75th anniversary but also in the years to come."
