SOUNDBITE (English): LIM SHI YU, Malaysian student in China
"This ancient dance, called "Huo Ding Gong Po," is very popular in Quanzhou, a city on the southeast coast of China. It is said that the people of Quanzhou worship over five hundred deities who often tour around the city. During these times, Huo Ding Gong Po is responsible for escorting the way and expelling evils.
The funnier Huo Ding Gong Po are, the happier everyone would become.
This is the first time I truly experienced the power of "joy." This is not just a performance. This is the true essence of this city -- the life philosophy of the Chinese people, the persistently preserving culture, the inclusively defining "beauty" and passionately embracing life. In their unique lifestyles, everyone becomes a "joyful hero" of their own."
