Environmental movements take to the streets for Rome's climate street parade.
A demonstration organized by more than 70 associations, movements and labor unions to demand a just transition. At the heart of the demands is the intersection of climate justice and social justice: “against those who would like to feed the blackmail between ecological transition and labor, it is necessary to create alliances and convergence,” they explain in the demands made. These include the cancellation of the debt of the countries most affected by the climate crisis and the establishment of proportionality based on the damage suffered in the allocation of the Loss and damage fund.
The form chosen is the street parade, a colorful and lively demonstration: “we are tired of an anxiety-inducing narrative, we want to bring out the joy and pride of being part of the planet as a species among species. And our rebellion, our desire to matter,” they explain. A procession that will not only be a protest, then, but also a “celebration of the resilience of nature and communities fighting for a sustainable future and a just transition.”
