Doctors outraged by DIY beautician, 58, fighting wrinkles with vacuum cleaner and hot iron
Doctors have warned against a DIY beautician who claims to stave off wrinkles using a vacuum cleaner and a hot iron.
Lala Gadieva, 58, also known as 'Shalala' from Chelyabinsk, Russia, has built up a fan base of hundreds of thousands of people by promoting the bizarre health tips.
Footage shows her using a suction device on her face and even what appears to be a heated flat iron.
The influencer, who claims to have 17 years of experience in cosmetology, reportedly charges her subscribers RUB 5,000 (GBP 39.81) for her 'self-care services'.
But experts warn that these kinds of 'self-massages,' using rolling pins, vacuum cleaners, and even combs, can lead to skin injuries, infections, and rosacea.
Cosmetologist and dermatologist Alena Sokolova told local media that such methods could be harmful.
She said: 'Such methods look impressive in such videos, and many perceive the reddening of the skin as a real improvement in blood flow or tightening. But this has nothing to do with real benefits. This is absurd.'
Sokolova debunked the unorthodox methods, pointing out that even a slightly heated iron can cause burns, hyperpigmentation, and disruption of the skin's barrier function.
Sokolova said: 'If you don't control the temperature, and I highly doubt that you can do this with an iron, you can damage the deeper layers of the skin, which will lead to serious consequences.
'Here we are also talking about cleansing: poorly treated surfaces can introduce an infection.'
