Firemen battled to remove a 200kg patient from his fifth-floor apartment in Thailand.

Three different rescue teams were called to the building in Bangkok when the male tenant, whose name was not disclosed, began having trouble breathing on January 13.

A joint team of firefighters, rescue volunteers, and medics rushed to the scene, where they found the man lying in bed surrounded by dozens of urine-filled bottles.

They had to wear face masks as they ventured into the room, where the floor was smeared in faeces, and strapped the man onto a rescue board.

Footage shows officers securing the board using a pulley system before sliding it down the narrow stairway.

It took at least six people to carry the patient out of the apartment and into an ambulance. He was rushed to the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital for further care.

The Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue team said in a Facebook post: 'We help everyone, regardless of who you are, whether it's a small or large matter, high or low status. We don't discriminate based on social class. We provide assistance because we are
'Ruam Katanyu' (together in gratitude), from the people, for the people.'
