Footage shows a fire that erupted at North America's largest coal export terminal on Saturday afternoon.

The inferno sent plumes of dark smoke into the air at the Delta port south of Vancouver, Canada.

Officials said the fire started at a coal stacker at one of the West Shore terminals. Residents complained of an acrid smell from the fumes.

Curt Appleby, who recorded a video of the blaze said that he was driving to catch a ferry when he first noticed the fire

He added: 'I was driving down the ferry causeway, which was super windy. I picked up a smell and thought it was a campfire. Then I looked over and saw a massive plume of smoke. It went for quite a ways.'
