Torrential rain triggers flood emergency in rural Queensland
Torrential rain triggered a flood emergency in rural Queensland, forcing residents to leave low-lying areas.
Authorities issued an urgent flood alert on Tuesday for the town of Einasleigh, around 380 kilometres north-west of Townsville, advising locals to evacuate immediately.
Footage shows floodwaters pouring into the Einasleigh Hotel on January 27.
Several chairs were toppled, and some belongings were damaged.
A tropical low has brought heavy rainfall across north Queensland. Significant and moderate flood warnings remain in place for multiple river systems, with water levels expected to stay high for several days.
Elsewhere, western and southern Queensland are enduring a severe heatwave, with temperatures nearing record highs.
