China: A Hamster Engineer
Chaoyang, Beijing, China - October 16, 2024 A small hamster built a tower out of the shredded paper lining its plastic house that its owner bought for it. This footage was filmed by Ms. Li, in Chaoyang, Beijing, at 16:24, on October 26, 2024. The uploader said: "Little hamsters don’t like coming out during the day and prefer to sleep in their nests. They’ll carry soft cotton back to their nests to make it extra cozy. The little one stays all puffed up inside the nest, and from the outside, you can see its tiny house wobbling—it’s impossible not to be curious. I specifically chose this bottomless little house so I could peek at it anytime. But I didn’t expect it to dig out all the wood shavings at the bottom to build itself a fortress and then sleep on top of it. It’s just too adorable. When the house ‘flew away,’ it looked so confused—probably because it had just been sleeping. That little expression and those tiny movements are beyond cute!"
