Police chased and caught buffaloes that escaped from a farm due to loud fireworks on New Year's Eve.

The Thai officers and rescue volunteers rushed to the scene to help a farmer find and round up the four bovines that ran loose after being frightened with the noise in Phayao province, Thailand.

Footage shows the animals dashing together along a road on December 31. They tied ropes around their horns to secure them before being returned to their owner.

The three adult buffaloes and a calf were unhurt and safely returned to their shed.

A rescue volunteer from Siam Ruam Jai Phayao Foundation said: 'We were informed by residents that the buffaloes escaped. We found them roaming in the area.

'They were startled from the loud fireworks and escaped their shed but the animals had been returned to their owner.'
