A drunk American tourist was arrested for allegedly attacking a police car in party resort Pattaya.

The intoxicated reveller reportedly smashed a police vehicle patrolling along Soi 6, at around 1:20am local time on January 21.

Pattaya municipal officers emerged from the car and hauled him to the Pattaya City Police Station, where he was detained to sober up.

Footage shows the tourist, who was wearing a red polo shirt, flanked by two cops as he staggered up the stairs to a detention cell.

With a smile on his face, he swayed his hips while telling them: 'Alright, party. Let's go, let's f*****g go.'

Police frisked him and confiscated his phone.

While being questioned, he said: 'I'm sorry. I did a lot of things, man. I really did.'

He was then thrown into a cell, where he was heard yelling throughout the early morning.

Udorn Woranam, a Pattaya City municipal officer, said the man allegedly launched an attack unprovoked along Pattaya Beach Road, known for its strip of bars and nightlife venues.

He said: 'We were conducting routine patrols when he approached. He was aggressive for no reason and he suddenly hit the car so we restrained him and took him to the police station.

'Initially, we tried to question him but he couldn't speak coherently because he was too drunk.'

The tourist was placed in a holding cell but was eventually released with the help of the US Embassy.

Police have declined to disclose his name, adding he has paid for the damages caused.

Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1950s and 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand while fighting Communism in Vietnam. Rural families are said to have even dressed their sons as women to cash in on the gold rush.

The handful of bars in the coastal town quickly grew and it is now the world's biggest sex holiday destination, with round-the-clock prostitution and drugs - a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah rife with crime and debauchery.

Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence, depravity and claims of corruption continue to blight its reputation.
