US, Los Angeles: Downtown Los Angeles Fire At Cecil Hotel

Los Angeles, United States - December 30, 2024 12/30/2024 10:58 pm (GMT-0800) DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call received at 10:58 p.m. Monday regarding a fire at the Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Firefighters arrived at 640 S. Main St. shortly after 11 p.m. and found a contents fire in one room on the 4th floor of the high-rise building, according to the LAFD. The fire was being held in check by the building’s fire sprinkler system, allowing crews to quickly extinguish the flames. Water from the sprinklers and firefighting efforts caused visible dripping in the hotel’s lobby ceiling. According to LAFD Spokesperson Margaret Stewart, firefighters will be at the scene for an extended period conducting smoke and water removal. The cause of the fire in the historic building remains under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.
