On January 14, at an ice fishing site in Yutian County, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, a sudden ice collapse sent multiple anglers plunging into freezing waters.

Footage captured by witnesses shows a crowded ice fishing scene with many enthusiasts drilling holes on the surface. Without warning, the ice began to crack and collapse, rapidly spreading across the area. Panicked anglers scrambled to escape, but some fell into the icy water amid the chaos. Shouts, screams, and calls for help echoed across the scene as the situation spiraled into disorder.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and medical teams, arrived promptly. Using specialized equipment, they successfully rescued all individuals from the water and provided on-site medical assistance.

Thanks to the swift rescue efforts, no lives were lost, though several victims suffered varying degrees of frostbite from prolonged exposure to icy water. They were rushed to a nearby hospital and are now in stable condition.

Authorities have attributed the incident to this year’s unusually warm winter, which weakened the ice’s thickness. With temperatures peaking at 7°C on the day, some sections of the ice had started to melt, and excessive drilling by anglers further compromised its stability.
