Port Sudan, Sudan - February 06, 2025 Storyline: At least 80 civilians have been killed and dozens more injured in recent escalating violence in Kadugli, the capital of the South Kordofan State in southern Sudan, according to a statement issued Thursday by Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the U.N. Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan. The statement said that there have been multiple incidents of detaining civilians, including children, and the ongoing conflict has obstructed humanitarian aid from reaching the region, leading to a severe shortage of medical supplies and a continuing deterioration of the humanitarian situation. The statement also highlighted that the security situation in Sudan's southeastern Blue Nile State is extremely precarious, warning that further escalation could threaten more civilian lives. The statement called on all parties involved in the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law and protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. Recent fighting has erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in South Kordofan. Both sides have accused each other of causing civilian casualties. Fighting broke out between the SAF and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum on April 15, 2023, and has spread to other areas. The clashes have killed at least 29,700 people and displaced more than 12.4 million people. Shotlist: FILE: Port Sudan, Sudan - Dec 25, 2024: 1.
