Barbacoas, Colombia - February 23, 2025 In an event that is being investigated, eight soldiers lost their lives and 16 more were injured, after the truck they were traveling in fell into an abyss in a rural area of ​​the municipality of Barbacoas, in the south of the department of Nariño, during the night of Sunday, February 23. The tragic event, which took place in the border area with Ecuador, was confirmed on the official account of the social network X of the Third Army Division where they preliminarily indicated that it was a traffic accident. “In events that are the subject of investigation, late at night on Sunday, February 23, a truck-type vehicle, which was traveling through the sector known as La Columpia in the municipality of Barbacoas, #Nariño, suffered an accident, where unfortunately, at the moment, the death of eight of our soldiers from the Rapid Deployment Force No. 2 of the #ThirdDivision [sic] is reported,” they tweeted. They added that rescue agencies are extracting the victims and providing medical attention to the uniformed officers injured in that accident on the Barbacoas-Junín road.
