Athens, Greece - Recent Experts in Greece have called for enhancing regulation to prevent adolescent internet addiction, which is becoming increasingly common among younger age groups in the country. Artemis Tsitsika, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Athens University and president of the Greek Society of Adolescent Medicine, has dedicated many years to researching and treating adolescent mental health. She stated that the issue of internet addiction has grown increasingly serious over the past few years. In January, the Social Action and Innovation Center in Greece issued a report titled "Stances and Behaviors of Children in Online Environments," revealing that the internet penetration rate among children aged 9 to 12 in Greece is nearly 100 percent. The center also found that 22.8 percent of the children surveyed had encountered inappropriate content online, while one-third were unaware of how to block or report such content. However, experts have also emphasized the importance of providing children with access to the internet in the digital era. To ensure a safe online environment and prevent internet addiction among adolescents, the Greek government has recently announced a plan to launch an application called "Kids Wallet," which helps control young people's social media use, provides digital age verification, offers browsing controls, and allows for greater parental oversight. A Greek official has revealed that the government aims to have the application pre-installed on smartphones sold in Greece by the end of 2025. Shotlist: Athens, Greece - Recent: 1.
