China - Recent Storyline: China unveils world's largest dual-fuel methanol engine [Voice_over] The China State Shipbuilding Corporation has just launched a massive dual-fuel methanol engine for a container ship as part of a larger plan to reduce emissions in the country's shipping industry. The engine weighs over 1,900 tons and has a maximum designed power of 64,500 kilowatts. It uses industrial methanol to generate 95 percent of its power, reducing CO2 emission by almost 8 percent compared to diesel vessels. [Sound_bite] Dong Jingjin, Project manager, methanol engine project, China State Shipbuilding Cooperation: "Let us make a comparison. Suppose the engine runs 300 days every year, the carbon emission reduction is equal to the total emissions of 72,000 gasoline passenger cars in a year." [Voice_over] According to recent data from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the country's marine economy grew by six percent in 2024 compared to 2023. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
