Sonia, 92, suffers from dementia and is left delighted when her son brings in Poppy the Staffordshire bull terrier to visit her.

Jon, the filmer and Sonia's son, told Newsflare: "On Wednesdays it's hair washing and shower day at the LittleFair Care Home in East Grinstead, West Sussex, UK, Sonia's least favourite day of the week.

"Sonia is 92 and suffering from dementia and can get a little down sometimes, having moved to the care home three months ago after living in her house for 63 years.

"She misses her creatures almost more than her people, so it is wonderful that the home encourages people to bring their pets to visit. Poppy the Staffie (aged 10) belongs to a friend who is away on holiday, so I decided to bring her along to cheer Mum up, and it worked! Such joy."

It happened because I let it happen and because the care home understand the positive impact that animals have on people who cannot be at home, particularly those with dementia.
