US: Pittsburgh First Responders Save Dog From Icy River Plunge
Pittsburgh, United States - March 10, 2025 Emergency responders in Pittsburgh sprang into action to save a dog that tumbled over a hillside and landed in the chilly waters of the Ohio River. The dramatic rescue unfolded in the West Carson Street area, where the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety scrambled its EMS and River Rescue team to the scene. Made up of brave EMS personnel and police, the squad raced against time to reach the stranded pooch. The department revealed that the dog had slipped over the edge and ended up near some barges tied to the riverbank. "The animal's owner, assisted by bystanders, had attempted to get the dog out of the water for nearly 30 minutes without success," officials said. Despite their efforts, the current kept the canine just out of reach. Undeterred, the River Rescue team maneuvered their boat between the barges with precision. Once close enough, a fearless paramedic leapt into the icy river and swam to the dog's aid. With skill and grit, the rescuer hauled the shivering mutt aboard the vessel. Miraculously, the soggy canine was unscathed—just cold and wet from its unexpected dip. Animal Care & Control personnel soon arrived, ensuring the dog was safely reunited with its relieved owners. The heartwarming save left the Pittsburgh community buzzing with pride for their first responders.
