This is the heart-warming moment a baby said her first word on camera - after her parents feared she wouldn't be able to speak due to a cleft palate.

Amelie, now 10 months old, surprised her mother on February 3, 2025, by saying "Mama" for the first time."

Amelie's cleft condition means her top lip is split, which can potentially affect her speech development.

Her mother, Lilian Moss, 35, has been teaching her Makaton - a communication system using signs and symbols in case she was unable to speak.

But to Lilian's surprise, Amelie spoke her first word last month.

Lilian, from Wokingham, Berkshire, said: "We have been teaching Amelie Makaton because we weren't sure if she would be able to use her words due to her cleft."

"But last month, she surprised us with her very first word: 'Mama.'"

"My heart just about burst when I heard it."
