Today, Chiang Mai in northern Thailand has the world's worst air pollution according to IQAir who monitor air quality worldwide. The district of Ban Waen, a suburb, recorded a PM 2.5 level of 235 which is very unhealthy while Chang Klan in the city recorded a PM 2.5 level of 193 which is unhealthy. Wearing a mask and avoiding outdoor exercise are advised.
Overall levels are 17.4 times the World Health Organisation air quality standard guideline.
