Teen asks girlfriend to prom by recreating iconic scene from 90s rom-com
A school student asked his girlfriend to prom by recreating the iconic scene from the 90s rom-com '10 Things I Hate About You'.
Landon Haines, 18, was inspired after seeing other 'promposals' on social media and knowing his girlfriend Haley was a fan of the movie.
In the original scene, Heath Ledger's character Patrick Verona takes over the school's football field mic box to serenade Kat Stratford, played by Julia Stiles, with Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."
Landon recreated the scene perfectly, serenading his girlfriend Haley Moore, 16, from the football field bleachers before running up to her with a poster and flowers.
He even had two friends act as security guards, just like in the movie, where school staff try to remove Patrick mid-serenade.
Landon, a high school student in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, said: "It was such a fun experience."
"I was a bit nervous about the singing, but once we started, it was just fun messing about with my friends."
"I also knew it was going to mean a lot to Haley and make her happy, so I was happy to do it just for that reason!"
Landon and Haley met through friends at school and have been together for about four months.
Although he knew she'd say yes, Landon wanted to make the promposal special.
To pull it off, he first got permission from his school principal to use the stadium's audio system.
He then enlisted a team of six people to help coordinate everything.
While two friends played security guards, another played the trumpet to fill in for the brass band from the movie and one handled the audio setup.
Landon managed to keep the promposal a secret from Haley.
He told her he had to drop off clothes to a friend and once everything was ready, he texted her to come meet him on the football field.
Landon said: "I was lucky enough to get permission from the principal."
"I think it's because they trust me."
"Then I had some good friends to help me out with the rest."
"Luckily, it wasn't too hard to get there as it was at our middle school."
"The rest all worked out perfectly."
