Woman surprises grandma by buying back childhood home
This is the moment a woman surprised her grandmother after buying back the childhood home.
Jenaca Rogers, 26, bought the home where she was raised by her grandmother Connie Moore, 73.
The house was originally built in 1978 by Connie's best friends Pat and Jerry.
Pat and Jerry, who later became known as Granny Pat and Papaw Jerry, played a huge part in Jenaca's upbringing.
The couple hosted every holiday and Jenaca says all her childhood memories are rooted in their home.
After Pat passed in 2017 and Jerry in 2022, the house was sold to a developer until Jenaca noticed it was back on the market in mid-May 2025.
Within two weeks, Jenaca had bought the property and waited until she had the keys to surprise her grandmother Connie.
Jenaca, an ultrasound tech from Columbus, Ohio, said: "It was a really special and emotional moment."
"There are so many memories tied up in this home for the whole family."
"Even though my Grandma Connie never lived there herself, Granny Pat and Papaw Jerry hosted practically every holiday event and were instrumental in raising me from when I was a baby."
"It had always been my dream to own and live in this house, so getting to surprise my Grandma was just extra wonderful."
Connie met Pat and Jerry at church in the early '90s, years before Jenaca was born.
They became close friends and after Jenaca's mother returned to work following maternity leave, they spent a lot of time helping to look after her.
Jenaca said: "I kind of refer to them as my god-grandparents but they were as much part of the family as anyone."
"From when I was 12 weeks old until they passed, they were integral in my life."
"Practically all of my childhood memories took place in their home, so it means so much to be able to own it now."
After Pat passed in 2017 and Jerry in 2022, a real estate developer purchased the home.
Jerry didn't have a living will and the house had to go through probate court.
The house was rented out until Jenaca noticed it was back on the market mid-June 2025.
Jenaca jumped on the opportunity and purchased the home.
When she went to view the house before purchasing it, she noticed the developer had made some changes, but luckily, key elements remained, including the fireplace.
Jenaca even found the toy car she used to play with in the garden shed.
She said: "It really feels like a full-circle moment."
The idea that my potential future children could grow up in this home like I did makes it even more emotional.
It's just been such an amazing turn of events."
