Hotel workers in Tenerife staged protests over pay and working conditions ahead of the British summer holiday season.

Footage shows striking employees outside the Melia Hotel calling for higher wages and addressing concerns over what they describe as unfair treatment by their employer.

The demonstration was part of a two-day strike from April 17 to April 18, organised by hospitality industry workers to demand salary increases.

Trade unions reported that 70 per cent of workers in the industry participated in the rally.

Jose Manuel Sanabria, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, said that while the government respects the right to strike, it must also ensure the safety and welfare of guests, as the activity coincides with one of the busiest tourist seasons.

Tenerife is the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, located off the coast of Africa. Known for its warm climate, beaches, and Teide National Park, it attracts tourists year-round, with summer being a particularly peak time.
