Neighbours team up to help rescue sheep so woolly it couldn't stand up
A group of neighbours in Lydd, Kent, teamed up to help save a sheep that was so woolly it couldn't stand up on its own.
Joan C, the filmer, spotted the sheep lying in field unable to get onto its feet.
"A neighbour sent me a whatsapp msg to tell me abt a sheep on its back - lying in a field across our Petty Sewer (Ancient Ditch/Watercourse). This is a red alert - so we needed to contact the shepherd who owns the sheep.
"I decided to post it on the Marsh site on Facebook and within minutes, there were over 40 views and comments - some people who knew the shepherd reached out to him.
"Another neighbour told me the name of the farm - so I looked this up and found a phone number. Rang them and as I was talking to the man, I saw that the shepherd was already on site. So everything was sorted - the shepherd righted the sheep (whose coat of wool was so heavy, soaked with the rain).
"Then thinking we'd saved the day, half an hour later, another neighbour rang my doorbell and said there is a sheep on its back! AGAIN! So this time, I rang the farm and no one answered but I left a message. 10 minutes later, having no sign of the shepherd, having also updated the FB post, I rang the number again. Got a lady and told her that the sheep is on its back again - so in another tense 10 minutes of waiting, the shepherd drove out and this time, he was prepared with a pair of shears.
"Eventually, he sheared the sheep - which was so happy it p***** itself - the lamb was left rather confused - cos the smell of mother was in a heap of wool which the shepherd is busy stuffing into a bag - while the voice of mother bleating is familiar albeit from a skinny sheep.
"The shepherd was thankful and told me that we've saved the life of a sheep today. It's a good news story - and I am thankful for everyone who chipped in to help this sheep and her lamb."
