PROTESTORS WALKING, CARRYING ISRAELI FLAGSTEL AVIV, ISRAEL - APR. 26: Hundreds of Israelis gathered on Begin Road in Tel Aviv on Saturday, April 26, to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages held in the enclave. Protesters carried photos of the hostages and banners criticizing the Israeli government’s handling of the conflict. Some demonstrators called for an immediate end to the fighting in Gaza, while others held signs demanding the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, who had been detained by Israeli forces. The Israeli army resumed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. Israel has killed nearly 51,500 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The UN has warned that the entire Gaza Strip, home to over 2 million people, could soon face famine as aid kitchens are expected to fully run out of food. Israel’s blockade since March 2 has prevented the entry of food, fuel, and medicine into the enclave for two months.
