-KHAN YOUNIS, PALESTINE - APR. 30, 2025: Israeli forces targeted tents sheltering displaced Palestinians on Wednesday, Apr. 30, in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Survivors described scenes of panic and devastation as the tents—housing families who had fled bombardments in other parts of Gaza—were hit. Many expressed shock and grief over the sudden attack. Al-Mawasi was designated by the Israeli army as a “safe zone” for civilians displaced by the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. On Monday, Israel’s state-owned broadcaster KAN reported that the Israeli military is preparing to expand its ground operation in the Gaza Strip, citing stalled ceasefire negotiations with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. More than 52,300 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
