(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) HOUTHI MILITARY SPOKESMAN, YAHYA SAREE SAYING: “The Yemeni Armed Forces salute all the free mujahideen in the Gaza Strip and their ongoing heroic operations against the Israeli enemy despite the siege and aggression. They affirm that, with Allah's help, they stand with them with all their capabilities and resources, and that their supportive operations will continue until the aggression against Gaza ceases and the blockade is lifted.” SANAA, YEMEN (MAY 2, 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT "HOUTHI PRESS OFFICE" HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO -EDITORIAL USE ONLY) - The Houthi group in Yemen claimed on Friday that it had successfully struck Israel's Ramat David Airbase with a hypersonic ballistic missile, marking another escalation in the group's declared campaign against Israel over the war in Gaza. In a televised statement, Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Iran-aligned Houthi forces, said the attack was carried out using a *Palestine-2* hypersonic missile and claimed it had "successfully reached its target" despite Israeli air defenses. "The missile force of the Yemeni Armed Forces targeted the 'Ramat David' airbase of the Israeli enemy... and the interception systems failed to counter it," Saree said. He framed the attack as retaliation for Israel's military operations in Gaza and pledged continued support for Palestinian militants. However, the Israeli military denied the Houthi claim, stating that its air defenses had intercepted the missile before it could reach its target. No casualties or damage were reported by Israeli authorities. The Houthis have launched multiple missile and drone attacks toward Israel since the start of the Gaza war, though most have been intercepted or fallen short. The group says its operations will continue until Israel ends its offensive and lifts the blockade on Gaza. The group halted attacks when a ceasefire in Gaza was declared in January between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, but resumed them after Israel renewed airstrikes on the enclave last month.
