Ramsgate, United Kingdom - May 26, 2025 A powerful tribute unfolded at the Commonwealth War Graves in Dunkirk on May 22, as service personnel gathered to remember those who took part in Operation Dynamo. HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO, Commodore-in-Chief of the Maritime Reserves, joined crews from seven Royal Navy P2000 vessels, HMS Collingwood, sea cadets, and veterans at the solemn ceremony. A wreath from HRH Prince Michael of Kent was placed by a sailor from HMS Collingwood and a sea cadet. The event honored the courage and sacrifice of those who participated in the 1940 evacuation of Allied troops from the continent. Over 70 small craft that were part of the original evacuation are now receiving a Royal Navy escort across the English Channel to Dunkirk. Fishing vessels, yachts, and pleasure cruisers are taking part in this historic voyage. This marks the largest assembly of the small ships since Operation Dynamo in May-June 1940. The commemorative events will continue in France until the ships return to Ramsgate on Monday, May 26, 2025.
