The French team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Italian representative Inter 5-0 in the final match to become the UEFA Champions League champion. Following PSG’s victory, the Eiffel Tower, the symbol of Paris, was illuminated in the team’s colors. In the streets of Paris, around the Parc des Princes stadium, and in the capital's surroundings, PSG fans celebrated their team's victory with great enthusiasm and fireworks. In images shared on social media, police are seen intervening with tear gas and batons to disperse the crowds of fans around the Parc des Princes stadium and on the Champs-Élysées Avenue. Meanwhile, some barricades and at least one vehicle were set on fire around the stadium, and fire crews dispatched to the scene intervened in the blaze. Some fans, trying to escape from the police, jumped onto the road by crossing the safety barrier. Fans wanting to go to the Champs-Élysées Avenue to celebrate PSG’s victory caused a stampede at a suburban train station. Le Figaro newspaper reported that at least 81 people were detained during the incidents that occurred in Paris after PSG’s victory. Authorities had decided to close some metro stations in Paris from 6:00 p.m. local time in order to prevent possible disturbances due to the match.
