PROTESTER VAFA MUSTAFA SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic)DAMASCUS, SYRIA - JUNE 2, 2025: Activists gathered in Damascus on Monday, June 2, to show solidarity with Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli jails. Dozens of demonstrators assembled at Hejaz Station Square, condemning Israel’s attacks on Gaza and calling for the release of all Palestinian detainees. Protesters waved Palestinian flags and held signs reading “Freedom for all prisoners in unjust jails” and “Freedom for Palestinian men and women in Israeli prisons.” One participant, Vafa Mustafa, told Anadolu that the protest aimed to express unwavering solidarity with all Palestinian prisoners, especially those held under Israeli occupation. Since March 2, Israel has kept all border crossings shut, cutting off the entry of food, medicine, fuel, and other essential supplies for Gaza’s 2.4 million residents. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has pursued a devastating offensive in Gaza since October 2023, killing over 54,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Aid agencies have warned about the risk of famine among the enclave's more than 2 million population. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
