SHOTLIST: DAMASCUS, SYRIA (JUNE 3, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF SYRIAN FOREIGN MINISTER ASAAD AL-SHAIBANI SPEAKING IN ARABIC AT PRESS CONFERENCE DAMASCUS, SYRIA - JUNE 3: The visit of the high-level ministerial delegation to the State of Qatar gave fruits to a set of understandings to support Syria in various sectors, said Syrian foreign minister on Tuesday (June 3) in Damascus, the capital of Syria. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani stated that they agreed on continuing the shipment of Qatari gas via Jordan, and reached agreements in various areas during their visit to Doha. “The visit of the high-level ministerial delegation to the State of Qatar gave fruits to a set of understandings to support Syria in various sectors and open up prospects for cooperation and investment in the country in all areas,” Al-Shaibani noted. "Our Qatari brothers will provide technical support to the Syrian government’s efforts to implement economic and financial reforms, and Qatari banks will begin providing correspondent banking services for Syrian banks in riyals, connecting Damascus to the global system," said he. A high-level Syrian ministerial delegation arrived in Doha on Tuesday for talks aimed at exploring bilateral cooperation and investment opportunities. In a post on X, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said the visit aims to strengthen relations between Damascus and Doha. The visit is part of efforts by Syria's new administration to rebuild regional partnerships and revive its war-torn economy. Syria’s state news agency SANA said Finance Minister Mohammed Barnieh met with his Qatari counterpart, Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, to discuss ways of developing mechanisms of cooperation between the two countries. According to SANA, Syrian Tourism Minister Mazen al-Salhani also met with Saad bin Ali Al-Kharji, chairman of Qatar Tourism, to discuss "horizons of joint cooperation and investment in touristic projects." The Syrian-Qatari relations have improved significantly since the ouster of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December last year, with Doha reopening its Damascus embassy in the same month after a 13-year closure. Ahmad Al-Sharaa, who led anti-regime forces to oust Assad, was declared president for a transitional period in late January.
