Egypt: Iran, IAEA, Egypt vow efforts for peaceful settlement of Iranian nuclear issue
Egypt, Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday vowed joint efforts to achieve peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue and avoid further escalation of tensions in the Middle East. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi visited Cairo, Egypt on Monday, and held separate meetings on regional tensions and the Iranian nuclear issue with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. On the same day, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Araghchi and Grossi, respectively, before the three sides held closed-door trilateral talks. At a press conference after the talks, the three sides expressed their commitment to working towards a peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means. Araghchi stressed that the right to make peaceful uses of nuclear energy is Iran's bottom line in its talks with the United States. In his meeting with al-Sisi, Araghchi praised Egypt's role in restoring regional stability, and affirmed Iran's commitment to continuing consultations with Egypt, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement. Egyptian-Iranian relations have seen signs of gradual improvement in recent years, particularly following the 2023 normalization of ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
