A massive wildfire caused hellish red skies over parts of Canada.

Footage captured by Alan McLauchlan shows the haunting scene over Rocky Lane in Manitoba as wildfire smoke shrouded the area in Manitoba on June 2.

Alan said: 'This is the Sun right now where we live, north of The Pas, Manitoba. Trying to shine through the wildfire smoke. Keep us in your prayers.'

Wildfires have been burning across northern Manitoba since late May, prompting the province to declare a state of emergency in effect until June 26.

The Manitoba government estimates that the fires have displaced more than 17,000 residents.

As of June 5, there were 27 active wildfires in Manitoba, with a total of 111 recorded so far this year, well above the seasonal average of 95.

Reports indicate that the wildfires have scorched a total of 732,685 hectares in the province.
