This is the shocking moment a footballer launched a Cantona-style flying kick at an opponent during a game in Indonesia.

The Perseta Tulungagung player was left injured after the kung fu-style attack during the Round of 32 East Java Zone Liga 4 match against Putra Jaya Pasuruan at Gelora Bangkalan Stadium, Madura.

The incident led the East Java Provincial Football Association (PSSI Jatim) Disciplinary Committee to issue a lifetime ban to the offender.

Local media reported that the chaos unfolded in the second half. During a midfield duel, Putra Jaya Pasuruan player Muhammad Hilmi Gimnastiar struck Perseta Tulungagung's Firman Nugraha directly in the chest.

Firman crashed to the ground in pain at the centre of the pitch. Medical staff rushed in before he was carried off on a stretcher during the incident on January 5.

The referee immediately showed Hilmi a red card for violent conduct. A brief argument broke out between players and officials, but was quickly contained.

The attack appeared to be sparked by frustration, as Putra Jaya Pasuruan were trailing 0–4 at the time. The match ended 7–2 in favour of Perseta Tulungagung.

Firman sustained serious chest injuries that could have long-term effects, authorities said.

The PSSI Disciplinary Committee convened a hearing and, through Decree Number 001/KOMDIS/PSSI-JTM/I/2026 dated January 6, confirmed Hilmi had committed violent conduct under Articles 48 and 49 of the PSSI Disciplinary Code and Articles 10 and 19 of the 2025 Code.

Hilmi was banned for life from all football-related activities and fined Rp 2.5 million (110 GBP).

Chairman Samiaji Makin Rahmat said: 'This act not only violates the principles of sportsmanship, but also endangers the safety of other players. Therefore, the Disciplinary Committee considers it necessary to impose firm sanctions.'

Putra Jaya Pasuruan also terminated Hilmi's contract with the club.

Firman said the hot-headed player had personally reached out after the incident, but added: 'The gesture does not appear to be sincere.'

Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona is best known for his kung-fu kick attack on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons during a Premier League match at Selhurst Park in 1995.
