SHOTLIST: LOS ANGELES, US (JUNE 8, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. US NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS IN CITY OF LOS ANGELES / PROTESTERS HOLDING MEXICAN FLAG 2. PROTESTER TALKING WITH US NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS 3. KIDNAPPERS WRITTEN ON BOARD 4. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MAXINE WATERS, US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, SAYING: “Thank you so much. Well, absolutely. I mean, you all know I won this country about early on. Yes, of course. In January, you know. Yeah. I knew he was capable of this kind of disruption. And so now we're getting always smooth. He would be like this is a dishonorable, cruel, yeah, individual who only cares about himself. And he's using deportation as a way to enhance this position with all of those right wingers out there. To that point, this country, to be a country of people coming from other places, it's outrageous, it is horrible. And we've got to make sure that we do everything that we possibly can. Because I think he's up to creating martial law. He even.” 5. REPORTER ASKING: “ I mean, look, we got the National Guard here. He brings the National Guard for what?" 6. WOMAN ASKING “What do you think about the National Guard being here, Trump deploying them and not our own governor?" 7. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MAXINE WATERS, US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, SAYING: “Well, the thing about it is, I don't know why they're here with guns. Whom are they going to shoot and for what? Are you going to shoot a kid running away just because they're afraid of them? Are you going to shoot a protester because you don't like what they're saying? Oh, why are the guns? Why are these guns here? That's my question. I don't get why the guns have to be here. We're a sanctuary city. We know Trump doesn't like us. We know they need to try to use us as an example. He's going to try to go to us so that he has martial law. He even alluded to Civil War at one point in talking about this issue.” LOS ANGELES, US - JUNE 8: U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) delivered a fiery rebuke of President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles, confronting troops near a detention center. Waters pleaded with National Guard troops not to use their weapons against protesters. She said "Whom are they going to shoot and for what? Are you going to shoot a kid running away just because they're afraid of them? Are you going to shoot a protester because you don't like what they're saying?" Her remarks came as tensions flared over Trump’s crackdown on immigration protests, with 2,000 National Guard troops ordered into the city following clashes between demonstrators and federal agents. Standing near armed soldiers outside the Metropolitan Detention Center, Waters accused the president of exploiting deportation raids to escalate tensions. "This is a dishonorable, cruel, yeah, individual who only cares about himself," she told Anadolu, warning that Trump "is up to creating martial law" and deliberately targeting Los Angeles as a sanctuary city. "He even alluded to Civil War," she added. The unrest began Friday, June 6, after mass arrests by ICE agents targeting undocumented immigrants. Demonstrators blocked streets, leading to skirmishes with riot police who used tear gas and flashbangs. Trump’s senior advisor, Stephen Miller, branded the protests "a rebellion against the U.S.," while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed "violent attacks on ICE" were orchestrated by cartels.
