On June 1st at 4:31 PM in Xintai City, Shandong Province, a dramatic incident unfolded on Provincial Road 241 when a horse suddenly bolted from a nearby livestock market and charged into traffic. The animal collided head-on with a sedan, causing significant damage to the vehicle’s windshield, hood, wipers, and right headlight.

Footage shows the horse standing beside the car with its reins caught under a tire, appearing uninjured despite the forceful impact. The driver had already slowed down, but the horse — unsupervised and panicked — darted directly into the road.

Local traffic police arrived at the scene, and only then did the horse’s owner come forward to retrieve the animal. Authorities issued a traffic accident certificate but did not assign blame for the incident. The driver, however, expressed frustration, revealing that not only must he pay for car repairs, but the horse’s owner is also demanding compensation for the animal.

Legal experts noted that animal-related collisions on public roads fall within traffic accident jurisdiction. If police fail to issue a formal liability ruling, drivers can still seek compensation through civil court, provided they collect sufficient evidence like dashcam footage, damage reports, and official records.

The car owner is now requesting a formal determination of liability from the traffic department and is prepared to pursue legal action if necessary.
