After a long night shift, Chellsea Hernandez grabbed a bowl for a quick bite, eating in low lighting before storing it in the fridge.

Fast-forward to the next morning, when she reheated her meal, lifted the lid, and noticed something moving in her lettuce. Taking a closer look, she spotted a caterpillar, very much alive.

Realizing that just one more bite in the dark could have led to an unexpected crunch, she immediately pulled out her phone to capture the bizarre moment.

Rather than letting the non-native insect loose, she fed it to her leopard gecko, but tossed the rest of her meal, knowing she could never be sure what else had been lurking inside.

Grabbed a bowl before my night shift. Ate a little bit in the dark. Put it in the fridge since I was done. Took it home after shift and put it in the fridge there. Woke up and was hungry so I took the lid off and put it in the microwave for 1 min to warm it up before mixing. Notice lettuce was moving and took a closer look, it was a caterpillar!! Immediately got my phone out to record it. One more bite in the dark from the previous night and that would’ve been in my mouth. I immediately pulled it out and gave it to my leopard gecko. That types are not native to our country and I was not going to let it free. Tossed the rest of my food because who knows what else could’ve been in there. I was so upset at the wasted food!
