This festival is called Hogueras. It takes place in Alicante, Spain, every year in June. During the celebration, which lasts for several days, large papier-mâché figures are built and later burned. In 2025, the burning of the main figure will take place on June 24th.

But before this grand finale, which marks the climax of the festival, there are daily firework displays at 2:00 PM on the central Luceros square. These are organized by specialized pyrotechnic companies and are known as la mascletà.

A mascletà lasts about 5 to 7 minutes and features a massive amount of gunpowder charges, fireworks, and explosions. As the display progresses, especially toward the end, the number and intensity of the explosions increase dramatically, creating a deafening roar and intense vibration — often so loud it feels like your ears might pop.

Overall, it’s a longstanding tradition that defines the spirit of the Hogueras festival.
