The demonstration, held approximately 90 kilometers north of the city center, featured protesters chanting pro-Iran slogans and condemning Israel’s alleged violation of Iraqi airspace. The protest comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. Earlier on Friday, Israeli fighter jets struck military infrastructure in southwestern Iran, targeting surface-to-air missile batteries, according to an Israeli military statement. Since June 13, Israel has conducted multiple airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites, as well as personnel, leading to retaliatory attacks from Iran. The latest escalation began last week when Israel launched airstrikes on several locations across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities. Tehran responded with missile attacks. Israeli authorities reported that at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured in Iranian missile strikes. Meanwhile, Iranian media claims that 639 people have died and over 1,300 have been wounded in Israeli attacks. The ongoing hostilities have raised concerns of further regional instability, with Iraq becoming an arena for both geopolitical tensions and domestic protests.
