VARIOUS OF PEOPLE CARRYING BODY OF KILLED TEENAGER, AMMAR MUTEZ HAMAYIL / CROWD CHANTING SLOGANS AS THEY MARCH TOWARDS CEMETERYRAMALLAH, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - JUNE 24, 2025: A funeral was held on Tuesday, June 24, in the village of Kafr Malik, east of Ramallah, for Ammar Mutez Hamayil, a 13-year-old Palestinian boy who died after being shot and detained by Israeli forces. Mourners in the occupied West Bank town carried Hamayil’s body on their shoulders to the cemetery, chanting slogans and condemning the killing. Hamayil was wounded by Israeli gunfire on Monday, June 23, and was reportedly arrested while injured. Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that Israeli forces withheld the boy’s body for nearly an hour before transferring it to Palestinian medical teams. Since the start of Israel’s assault on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, 978 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in the West Bank by Israeli forces and settlers, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
