France: Faith Kipyegon expresses hope after missing 4-minute mile goal
-PARIS, FRANCE - JUNE 26, 2025: Kenyan female athlete Faith Kipyegon expressed hope for future attempts and shared messages to women at a press conference in Paris on Thursday, June 26, following her failure to become the first woman to run one mile in under four minutes. Despite her failed attempt, Kipyegon remained optimistic after the race. "And I'm still there to try. You know, I've seen it's possible. And one day, one time, it will just come my way," she said. Reflecting on the race, she described it as a learning experience, where she "learned many lessons." "I think I've shown other women out there that we have to push ourselves to what we dream of," Kipyegon said, sharing a message to the women around the world. She concluded with a message of motivation for all, urging people to actively pursue their goals: "We don't have to limit ourselves in everything we do. If you are a doctor or a nurse, you have to wake up in the morning and just go for that thing you want in life. Because it will never come to you. You have to try and go for it." Kipyegon narrowly missed her goal of becoming the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes at the Charlety Stadium, finishing with a time of 4:06.42. In the event called "Breaking4," she managed to break her previous world record by 1.22 seconds. However, the new time will not be officially recognized due to the use of male pacemakers and a technologically enhanced running kit.
