Los Angeles, United States - June 26, 2025 06/26/2025 01:15 pm GMT-0700 VAL VERDE, Calif. – A fast-moving brush fire broke out Thursday afternoon near Chiquito Canyon in Val Verde, quickly growing from a small blaze. The fire, named the Jasper Fire, triggered a second alarm response as crews faced challenging terrain and fuels while attempting to contain it. Initial reports indicated a vegetation fire estimated at just one acre, with the potential to spread to 10-20 acres within the hour. By 1:33 p.m., radio traffic confirmed that the fire had jumped Chiquito Canyon Road, escalating the urgency of the response. The rapid growth of the fire was so intense that firefighters estimated its size at 100 acres at one point. However, it has since been mapped to a size of 36.6 acres. The fire burned into parts of the adjacent Chiquito Canyon Landfill. L.A. County Health and Hazmat teams were requested to evaluate potential hazards. By 3:50 p.m., fire crews reported they had gained control of the situation and had halted the fire's forward progress. No structures were reported threatened, and no evacuations were ordered.
