İzmir, Türkiye - June 27, 2025 A massive forest fire has engulfed parts of Izmir’s Aliağa district, spreading rapidly into the nearby Foça region after flames broke out at a local garbage dump. Turkish authorities report that more than 550 people were evacuated from 175 homes as the fire spread through dry forested areas, fueled by strong winds and high temperatures. The blaze, which has been burning for over 20 hours, required the deployment of firefighting helicopters, aerial water bombers, and heavy ground machinery. Officials confirmed the arrest of a suspect, believed to have started the fire near the dump site. Firefighting efforts continue, with teams working around the clock to prevent the flames from reaching additional residential zones.
