ONE PROTESTOR, SIMON JONES, SPEAKING TO REPORTER (English)LONDON, UK - JUNE 30, 2025: Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside Woolwich Crown Court in London on Monday, June 30, to support 18 Palestine Action activists accused of causing £1 million damage to an Elbit Systems factory in Bristol. The protest, held as the UK government prepares to classify Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation, featured participants from diverse social and professional backgrounds. Protesters blocked one lane near the court, briefly halted access to the entrance during a moment of silence, and chanted slogans including “Palestine Action, make us proud; shut down another Elbit factory,” “Free Palestine,” and “We are all Filton 18.” Many participants displayed photos of the Filton 18 and Palestinians killed in Gaza, and some painted their hands red to symbolize bloodshed. Police maintained a security cordon, and the road was reopened after an hour. Palestine Action is known for actions against arms factories across the UK that supply military equipment to Israel, particularly since Israel’s sustained offensive began in October 2023. Six activists from the group entered an Elbit Systems facility in Filton, Bristol, last year, damaging drones and military equipment under production. The total damage was estimated at £1 million, and the number of detained activists later rose to 18, now known collectively as the “Filton 18.” The group has previously disrupted operations at factories and headquarters across the UK and recently splashed red paint on the engines of two military planes at Brize Norton Airbase. UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced efforts to designate Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, citing claims that the targeted aircraft were used in Middle East operations. The proposal will be discussed in Parliament on Wednesday.
