Police say more than 150 people have been arrested at a protest in London backing the banned group Palestine Action.

Demonstrators, organised by Defend Our Juries, gathered in Parliament Square, with many holding up handwritten signs reading: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”

The government outlawed Palestine Action in July under the Terrorism Act 2000, making membership or support a criminal offence carrying a maximum 14-year sentence.

While the protest continued, the Metropolitan Police said: “It will take time but we will arrest anyone expressing support for Palestine Action.”
