China - July 01, 2025 Storyline: Cycling-friendly mall attracts young consumers in SW China [Voice_over] Imagine riding your bike, not to the mall, but throughout the mall. That's the experience at a cycling-themed shopping mall and entertainment complex in Chengdu, the capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province. The layout of the complex was designed with bikes in mind. Wide, curving bike paths link the floors, and special elevators or metal bike ramps attached to the stairs make moving around in the space a breeze. Cycling enthusiasts say being able to ride your bike from store to store is quite novel. [Sound_bite] Deng Dezhi, cyclist: "I think it's very convenient. It's friendly to cyclists. If you want to go to upstairs or go shopping, you can ride a bike on supporting tracks. In the mall, you can ride to where you want to. For us, it's more attractive." [Voice_over] Besides shops, the center also includes libraries and theatres. According to statistics from the China Cycling Association, there are more than 10 million cycling enthusiasts in the country, more than 160,000 cycling clubs, and more than 30,000 bicycle shops.
